I've thought about my photography a lot this year. I guess I always do, but this year what really stuck out to me was the realisation what photography means to me. I'm way past social media algorithms and likes, and doing things just to make strangers love my photos, when in reality, the only reason they love them is because they show things that grab their attention mid-scroll.
I don't want to reduce my passion to that—I want to create photographs that mean something to me, that are lovely memories of moments, places, and people. So, when I heard my mum wanted to make a cake with her leftover mascarpone cheese during my last visit there, I knew I'll grab my camera. I might not be the biggest help in the kitchen (almost as useless as the dog napping on the floor and waiting for leftover scraps), but I wanted to capture this.
My mum loves baking and she's pretty damn good at it. It's only fitting I show her creations to the world. And all of this started out simply because she wanted to use the mascarpone cheese before it goes bad, and the next thing you know the kitchen is buzzing with a delicious tiramisu on the way.
